What is the Taste of African Heritage Cooking Program about?
Our ancestors ate a diet that truly fed the Soul. It was made up primarily of greens, grain, fruits, vegetables, tubers, nuts/seeds & legumes. This sustained them and facilitated long life, and slow aging.
Sankofa partnered with Oldways in September 2012 to begin offering interactive cooking classes in order to educate the public about the specific dietary needs of people of African descent. Classes are fun, informative, and most importantly leave a lasting impression on students' everyday eating habits.
The doctor tells you to eat more vegetables and cut back on fats... African Heritage Classes show you which veggies, fruits, & grains, where to buy them, how to prepare them, and what they help to heal within the body. Issues such as hair growth, heart & lung complications, intestinal & skin problems, ADHD/behavior, and depression are discussed.
African Heritage Classes will be offered to the public seasonally 2 times per year (Spring/Summer & Autumn/Winter). Private classes can be arranged by any group of friends, family, co-workers, church, or other organization. A minimum of 5 participants required, maximum of 10.
