#loctightening and #locrepair □ It has been closer to a year than 6 months, but we still have a good foundation □ This definitely classifies as #semifreeform □ Keeping your locs moisturized is a MUST for semifreeformers. Absolutely!

2015 Events Affecting the Texas Natural Hair Industry: NEW Rules for Braiding Schools AND THEN DEregulation??!!?!?!

2015 UPDATE:
Gov. Greg Abbott Signed HB2717 into Law on June 10, 2015, DEREGULATING the Natural Hair Braiding Specialty Industry 6 months after clearing approval to establish licensed and regulated natural hair schools!! KLTV 7 Comes to Sankofa Natural Hair to Ask How This Decision Will Affect the Texas Hair Industry. For the most up to date information and FAQ answers DIRECT from the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR), click here.

*** It must be noted that a 300 hr  Weaving Specialist License IS STILL REQUIRED to provide hair weaving services to clients in the state of Texas. According to the State, Hair Weaving is defined as attaching commercial hair (human or synthetic) to a client's hair using bonding glue, and similar agents (QuickWeave), AND/OR thread (sew-in method). The full text of
HB2106, establishing the Braiding Specialist License and Weaving Specialist License, is found in the TX Legislative Reference Library here. Click "Open Bill File" to download the pdf.

Sankofa Natural Hair is a Natural Hair Braiding Specialty Salon,
and does not offer any services that are regulated by TDLR as Barbering or Cosmetology. Clients requesting these services are referred to experienced and established Barbers, Cosmetologists, Weaving, Cut & Color Specialists who are licensed to practice as the law requires.

2017 UPDATE:
Texas 85th Legislature deregulates shampooing and conditioning!  SB1503- Abolishing shampoo apprentice permits and shampoo specialty certificates, was signed into law on June 15, 2017, effective September 1, 2017. This means that Natural Hair Braiding Specialists are no longer required to obtain a Shampoo Specialist License or Permit to wash and condition the client's hair before service. After the Texas Braiding Specialist Deregulation in June 2015,  this is a move that works well in the favor of  TX Natural Hair Professionals, as we can better utilize the proper principles of Bacteriology & Sanitation to create a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for our clients, along with expanding services offered to include washing & conditioning, along with scalp treatments and masques.
